Women at the Helm – Discovery World (nonprofit agency)

As President & CEO, I developed a program wherein 10 high-level women executives boarded the Sailing Vessel (S/V) Denis Sullivan as student crew. The Sullivan is a three-mast 19th Century tall ship replica that serves as a teaching platform for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) and freshwater conservation. Women at the Helm participants became student sailors working 24/7 alongside the Sullivan’s captain and professional crew – sailing the vessel; raising and lowering the masts; conducting round-the-clock boat checks and emergency drills; swabbing the decks and cleaning the heads. Goal was to raise the awareness of Discovery World and the S/V Denis Sullivan – and to promote team building among this influential group of women in the Milwaukee area.
