Responsible for merging two existing, but very distinct, nonprofit
organizations–Discovery World and Pier Wisconsin
Art@Work Program – Collaborated with Americans for the Arts (a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C.) to bring their Art@Work program into Rockwell facilities and our partner schools. There is a close correlation between the creative, artistic side of a person and their ability to learn and retain STEM-related knowledge. This approach added to Rockwell’s focus on STEM programs with the addition of “art” to make the acronym read: STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Goal was to grow Rockwell’s future engineering workforce. Rockwell employees would volunteer at our partner schools in the community to feature students’ artwork in the workplace.
Founding Board Director, HPGM – Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee
I worked at a grassroots level with other professionals in the Greater Milwaukee area to found and develop the Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee, a multicultural, multigenerational group of Hispanic professionals creating a dynamic environment for members to thrive by fostering education, leadership, mentorships, networking, and new Hispanic initiatives. www.hpgm.org. The organization has grown from approximately 350 members to a thriving membership base of 1,200. Goal was to provide a forum for Hispanic professionals who worked in companies throughout the Greater Milwaukee area to grow professionally and expand their networks. HPGM was extremely well-received by the entire community, especially the corporations seeking a diverse pool of job candidates.
PROGRAM SUPERVISION:
1. Rockwell Charitable Corporation – As steward of Rockwell’s worldwide contributions, I worked with our businesses around the world to set the philanthropic strategy; budget, policy; guidelines; and recommended contributions for all Rockwell locations. Then, I presented the recommendations to the Board of Directors of the Rockwell Charitable Corporation, which they accepted about 99% of the time. My goals and responsibilities were to evaluate, present and monitor progress all programs funded by the Rockwell foundation while, at the same time, encouraging community collaborations.
2. Board of Directors Volunteer – I represented two consecutive Chairmen & CEOs of Rockwell Automation on Boards of Director for various national nonprofit organizations, sharing and implementing ideas with my peers for new programs. These organizations included but were not limited to: Boys & Girls Clubs of America; Junior Achievement; Boys Scouts of America; Girls Scouts of America; The Conference Board; National Council of La Raza; LULAC; Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund; UNCF; Native American Scholarship Fund; various colleges and universities; museums; and other nonprofit organizations. Goals were to carry out the vision and mission of the Rockwell Charitable Corporation – to contribute to the well-being of our communities by being engaged and enthusiastic supporters of those communities; and to grow our future workforce.
